Introduction
For this assignment we have been asked to take part in this years Fuji-film Student Awards 2013, the theme is 'The Colour Of...' We have no limits of how many images we can enter, we can take however many images as we wish. They can be individual or a series of images on one theme. We have to be as creative and unique as possible and try and create something that no one else would think of to make the judges look at our work and make us stand out from the rest. The judge will be looking for one image as the winner though not a series. You can enter as many times as you wish.Try and make the images not the same as last years because they remember what they look like before and wont choise your image because its known as 'copy cat'
As its called Fuji film obviously we have to take our images on a fujifilm. It doesn't matter what film it is because they have loads of them so choice which ever camera suits us.
This is the website that we go on to look at and gain ideas. We are asked to experiment with different effects such as black and white, colour negative and colour transparence. The slow speed of Velvia 50, for example will provide sharp and punchy images capable of great enlargement. The winner of this competition will win 200pounds worth of Fuji-film, a professionally produced folio of prints and a one to one printing session with one top printers. The winning image will be in an exhibition next summer in London. At the end of the month the judges will review all the images that were submitted. From the images they will choose one monthly winner who will be presented with a free 12 x 6 professionally produced print of their winning image.

IDEA'S
Here are some ideas for my color. I like the images of the crayons. I think i will do something with crayons, even if i don't use it for my final images i like these images as there bright and different colours. I want to do something like the images below of the food colouring in the glasses. i think this is unique and different compared to what other people would do. I like how the food colouring spreads slowly so it will be a good photo. I will try and use different things and not just glasses, things such as bottles, bowls, see thru stuff.
For another one of my ideas i have decided i am going to get a lemon and paint every section of the lemon different colours then i am going to put the lemon ontop icecubes. I have an image saved which i will put on here to show what i mean. I also like the idea of broken glass and colours reflecting of it. This would be very effective but the hardest one to do.

I have changed my idea from ink in water because everybody was doing it. I have decided i am going to do this instead. By using an orange or a lemon and paint each section a different colour. I was going to just take a photo of a lemon/orange then edit it on photoshop which would be easier but we have to take the image on fuji-film film camera so i am going to have to either use paint to paint each section or use a sharpie pen to  colour the sections in. I am not going to use the idea of the crayons anymore either as i dont like that idea. I think i just looked at them for researching ideas because once i came back to it i realised it wasn't a good idea. I am going to do close up shots like the image to the right which i like loads. I think these images have been taken on a digital camera then just edited in photoshop and  changed the different colours.

Research - Andriana Mullen

Andriana Mullen was born and raised on the island of Sardinia in Italy, a country well known for its exceptional cuisine. A graduate of the French Culinary Institute of New York, she comines a passion for photography with her love of food, wine and the finer things in life.
Inquisitive, filled with joie de vivre and eager to explore, Andriana is inspired by the words of art, architecture, design, food and photography.

I researched Mullen because she gave me ideas of how to produce my final images. She takes photographs of different fruits in different angles so it gave me ideas on how to place my fruit when i took my final images.

Her goal is to bring all of her interests and skills together to create rich and elegant food and still life photography, visuals with high impact for both advertising and editorial clients. Mullen takes images of different types of food such as fruit, sweets and she takes photographs in italy. Here are some images of her foods.

I like the way Mullen takes her images because they are all different but also similar at the same time.

He is Digital still life and food photographer and based in London, UK. Simons food photography exercise and years of experience have enabled him to work with many lading food companies and publishers. I like the image to the right of the eggs in the bowl with the shell of the egg still on the side. I like this image because of how this has been taken with the whisk and the egg shell at the side. It gives you a feeling of what they are going to do next such as whisk the eggs in the bowl.

Exceptional west London studio with state of the art facilities for food, drinks and still life.
Simons food photography has featured in a wide range of advertising  books and food packaging. His clients are

He has a wide range of clients for Drinks photography also. He has shot beer, cocktails, coffee, soft drinks, tea and wine. London studio features a large selection of glasses, backgrounds and other props for drink photography.
I partially like Simons image of the apple. I like this because its a simple image but you can see all the detail in the water thats dripping of it. I like the way it looks like a perfect apple. The perfect shape, perfect colour, its how you would expect an apple to look. I also like the image of the apple pie and ice cream because i like the way it has been shot and the apples which are in the background. Its not just a plain image like the apple, its different and original. Its the sort of image you would see on a menu and the image gives great flavour. Again i looked at images like this to gain ideas on how to place my oranges and lemons and how to take my photos. From birds eye view, side view etc... The image above is quite eye catching how it is placed on a pink playe and there is pink coming out of the sweet thing. I like this because it fits in well together and blends in. Like it would look really odd if the plate was blue and the inside was pink. so they both blend in.

Christina Peters.
Christina Peters has been taking photos since she was 8 years old. She grew up in Newark  Delaware. She moved to California in 1989 to attend Art center college of Design where she received her BFA in Photography and has been shooting ever since.
Some of her recent clients include: Arbys, Baja Fresh, Bath and Body works, Bristol Farms Markets, Bumble Bee Tuna, Burger King, Donimos pizza, McDonalds and many more. You can tell that Christina is a commercial photographer by looking at her images. All her images are very professional and look like they are out of a magazine or menu or even hung up on a wall in a restaurant.
I didnt really find Christina interesting until i looked at her food photography. The image to the right that she has taken of the lobster is one of my favourites. This image is really eye-catching because of all the detail in the image. I like that she has taken this as a studio image with the white background. This makes the image stand out more and gives it more detail because you are focusing on the lobsters skin instead of the background. This image is one you would see in a restaurant and you would be very appealed to eating a lobster if it was there.
The other image to the right of the salad and the fork is again one you would see in a menu or in a restaurant. I like this image again because of how simple it is and because of the detail. I like the way it has been taken from the side like the lobster has. It makes the front part of the photo focused and the second part blurry.
The image of the bottles of coke cola below are different to the others because she has either taken this of each individual glass after drinking some or has used four glasses. Again this is a studio image which i like and is advertising coke cola.

My final images.

Because i was going to do the colourful lemon thing above, this failed as this picture to the right shows. I tryed to do this with colour pens and food colouring but as you can see it all blended in. I quite like it now that it has dryed because it looks colourful. It looks more colourful than my final image of my lemon and oranges but i enjoyed doing the faces on the oranges and lemons. I think i decided to do this task before i realised this assignment was on film camera so i couldn't edit it in photoshop. It would of worked better if it was on digital camera so that we could edit it. I really liked this idea and i really wish it would of worked. because i had already brought the oranges and lemons i wanted to use them with something so thats why i decided on my new idea. I like my new idea better then my old one. My old one was really hard to do and was not as fun as the oranges and lemons. If i was to do this image properly i would of booked the studio out and done it in the studio. But im glad my oranges and lemons were on location as they would of looked boring if they were in the studio.

So my new idea for this is this image above. Because i had already brought the orange and lemons i wanted to do something with them in. So i decided to draw smiley faces on them and photograph them in different places. My images are below. The images below are the digital ones though. I havent yet got the film ones developed. I really enjoyed doing this task as it was different and fun to draw the faces on them. My favourite image is the top one with the fork sticking in the orange. I like this because its close up with the ice-cream in the background. Again if i had more time i would of changed the face to a sad face because it would of made more sense because its got a fork in it. It would of made it more ironic and interesting.

My final images are on the right. I am pleased with the out come of this i really like them. I think there more fun images the serious photography images. If i was to do this again i would of got apples, and bananas and different colour fruits. I would of also done it with different food and different places but i didn't feel like i had enough time. Overall i think i am pleased with my idea and my digital images. These were all taken on my iphone at lunch time at college. I just tryed to put them in random places really. I just hope now my film images come out correctly and not to bright or to dark. These digital images were just simply taken on my iphone and some were edited using instagram.

Evaluation

For this assignment we had 6 weeks to complete 3 images which were taken on a FujiFilm. I quite liked this assignment as it was interesting to find things that were colourful and i wanted to do something different which i chose lemons and oranges with faces on them. I just stook the faces on with glue and blue tack.  This assignment was based on the competition FujiFilm colour on the website. We were asked to produce these 3 images to enter into the competition 'The colour of...'
This assignment was quite hard though as my first idea failed. I was doing the idea of colouring each section of the lemon or orange in like above shows you but this failed and there is a image above of why it failed and what it turned out like. This failed because the orange and lemon wasn't dry enough and the ink and the colour just ran straight thru and made it look a mess. My final images were taken in a cafe. I wanted to take them somewhere different and in a good location so i decided to do them in a cafe so that i could place them in my food and take photographs of them in different foods.
I have taken these images on digital and film camera although i havent had my film camera ones developed yet.
Overall i thought this assignment was very interesting and although it was on film, usually i dont enjoy film camera projects but this one was quite enjoyable.
